1. St. Louis Rams - Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma
The Rams can’t leave the 2010 NFL Draft without a franchise quarterback going forward. Bradford has passed every test scouts have thrown at him, and he will probably sign with St. Louis before draft day.
2. Detroit Lions - Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska
A left tackle would be a good move, but Suh completes a defensive line that actually belongs in the NFC North. The Lions are making the right moves to compete soon.
3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Gerald McCoy, DT, Oklahoma
They wanted Suh, but McCoy is still a top-notch prospect. The Bucs are in total rebuilding mode, and anchoring the defensive line is a great place to start.
4. Washington Redskins - Russell Okung, OT, Oklahoma State
A great option here is to trade down in the top 10 with a team that wants Okung, Jimmy Clausen or Eric Berry. Offensive tackle is deep enough in this draft to move down and still get a great blind-side blocker.
5. Kansas City Chiefs - Trent Williams, OT, Oklahoma
Iowa’s Bryan Bulaga is the safe choice, but Williams has great upside. A lot of fans think Eric Berry will go here, but general manager Scott Pioli is unlikely to take a safety this early in the draft.
6. Seattle Seahawks - Bryan Bulaga, OT, Iowa
Like the Chiefs, the Seahawks absolutely have to get some pass blocking up front. Matt Hasselbeck is pretty much done because he kept getting hit. A quarterback is also a realistic option.
7. Cleveland Browns - Eric Berry, S, Tennessee
The Browns could take Jimmy Clausen if he’s available, but that may not happen. Berry is the most talented player in the draft, and the Browns’ secondary needs a lot of help.
8. Oakland Raiders - Bruce Campbell, OT, Maryland
Another Terrapin workout warrior for Al Davis to salivate over. Campbell’s great 40-time will help him hurry back to the sideline every time Oakland’s offense goes three and out.
9. Buffalo Bills - Jimmy Clausen, QB, Notre Dame
Buffalo wants this kid, so they’ll trade up with either Washington or Kansas City to make sure the Browns don’t grab him first. It’s very unlikely Clausen falls beyond No. 9.
10. Jacksonville Jaguars - Earl Thomas, S, Texas
Jacksonville needs help in a lot of places, and one of them is the secondary. Earl Thomas is a playmaker who can restore some identity to a defense without one.
11. Denver Broncos - Joe Haden, CB, Florida
Dez Bryant is an option in the wake of the Brandon Marshall trade, but will the Broncos replace one head case with another? Not when Champ Bailey is aging and the Broncos could use an upgrade anyway on the other side.
12. Miami Dolphins - Rolando McClain, ILB, Alabama
This run-stopper from ‘Bama will be an excellent complement to the recently acquired Karlos Dansby, one of the best coverage linebackers in the league.
13. San Francisco 49ers - C.J. Spiller, RB, Clemson
The first running back is off the board. The ’Niners have offensive weapons, but Spiller can score from anywhere. He’s also a threat in the return game, and San Francisco can’t afford to watch division rival Seattle take him at No. 14.
14. Seattle Seahawks - Taylor Mays, S, USC
Three safeties in the top 15? Pete Carroll knows what he’s getting after coaching Mays for four years at Southern Cal, so the oft-criticized safety will have a smooth transition in training camp. Mays is an athletic playmaker who fits a need.
15. New York Giants - Derrick Morgan, DE, Georgia Tech
The best pass rusher slides to the Giants, who need to get back to their roots on defense. They went four deep at defensive end when they won Super Bowl XLII, so using the 15th pick on a top-10 talent at that position is the right move.
16. Tennessee Titans - Jason Pierre-Paul, DE, South Florida
Everyone loves JPP’s upside – he’s talented enough to go in the top 10. However, work ethic issues could keep his rookie salary down. In need of a pass rusher, Tennessee happily takes Pierre-Paul to round out the first half of Round 1.
17. San Francisco 49ers – Kyle Wilson, CB, Boise St.
Right tackle can wait until round 2. The 49ers would love to have a second cornerback with talent like this across from Nate Clements, and with two first-rounders they can afford to do so.
18. Pittsburgh Steelers – Maurkice Pouncey, G/C, Florida.
The Steelers need to get back to running the ball, especially without Big Ben early on, so they take a versatile interior lineman to make some lanes for up-and-coming star Rashard Mendenhall.
19. Atlanta Falcons – Sean Weatherspoon, OLB, Missouri.
Atlanta needs to stock up on quality defensive starters. They’re a good team, but they can’t take the next step with fourth round talent on defense. The Falcons could be a sneaky NFC contender in 2010.
20. Houston Texans – Ryan Matthews, RB, Fresno State.
Houston needs a real running back, not just a track star like Steve Slaton. This selection would give them a playoff-worthy rushing duo, and playoffs are exactly what fans expect after eight seasons of being the new guys in town.
21. Cincinnati Bengals – Dez Bryant, WR, Oklahoma St.
Dez Bryant’s long slide ends in Cincinnati. Chad Ochocinco is a free agent after 2011, and owner Mike Brown is paranoid about having another disastrous season at receiver. He’s a bit of a diva, but since when has that bothered the Bengals? Good value here.
22. New England Patriots – Jermaine Gresham, TE, Oklahoma.
The Patriots will be ecstatic that Cincinnati didn’t take this ridiculous athlete. Tom Brady will really benefit from having a quality pass catcher besides Randy Moss and Wes Welker, especially a red-zone threat like Gresham.
23. Green Bay Packers – Anthony Davis, OT, Rutgers.
This pick will absolutely be an offensive tackle, regardless of who’s available. The Packers take the best one available, which in this case is Mr. Upside from Rutgers. Aaron Rodgers can sleep at night.
24. Philadelphia Eagles – Brandon Graham, DE, Michigan.
The Eagles really need another pass rusher to beat the three great quarterbacks they’ll face in the NFC East. They’ll be pretty thrilled if Graham falls to here, because this means Donovan McNabb will actually have to work to beat his old team.
25. Baltimore Ravens – Dan Williams, NT, Tennessee.
The Ravens are great at drafting because they simply wait and see which great player fell too far. Dan Williams could go in the top 15 picks, so this would be a really easy choice for Baltimore, which could use an upgrade at nose tackle anyway.
26. Arizona Cardinals – Mike Iupati, G, Idaho.
With Matt Leinart and Derek Anderson as the top two quarterbacks on the roster, the Cards will have to learn to run the ball. They have two capable backs in Beanie Wells and Tim Hightower, so they’ll want a bruiser like Iupati to open up some holes.
27. Dallas Cowboys – Charles Brown, OT, USC.
Dallas is thin at offensive tackle, so grabbing a guy this good this late is a steal. Jerry Jones wanted Iupati, but the Cowboys will take who they can get. Brown is an underrated prospect.
28. San Diego Chargers – Jahvid Best, RB, California
The Chargers let LaDainian Tomlinson go, and Darren Sproles is on an expiring contract. They really need a talented rusher going forward, especially with the pathetic attempt at rushing against the Jets in the AFC Divisional round.
29. New York Jets – Sergio Kindle, OLB, Texas.
When you’re drafting this good a player for depth, you’ve got a pretty damn good team. New York grabs another pass rusher to give the opposition absolute nightmares.
30. Minnesota Vikings – Colt McCoy, QB, Texas.
Surprised? The Vikings have no serious needs, so they’re grabbing their replacement for Brett Favre, who will only play for 14 more seasons before ascending into Heaven. McCoy’s accuracy is ideal for a West Coast offense.
31. Indianapolis Colts – Jared Odrick, DT, Penn St.
You can always use more defensive line help. Odrick is a great defensive tackle for a 4-3 scheme, so Indianapolis won’t hesitate if he’s there. The Colts inexplicably take offense in the first round pretty often, though. Watch out for the Bill Polian Special.
32. New Orleans Saints – Brian Price, DT, UCLA.
Having Price play alongside former top-10 pick Sedrick Ellis will make for one mean interior defensive line. The Saints bolster their run defense with the final first round pick to begin their title defense.
